Several to many columnar stems arise from the ground and can grow to about eight feet tall. The dense bristly white spines nearly completely conceal the stems.

Where does the silver torch cactus live?

silver, or woolly, torch (Cleistocactus strausii) is endemic to the mountains of Argentina and Bolivia. Its numerous erect columns appear whitish in colour because of their numerous dense spines. The plants bear narrow red flowers along the length of the stems.

How do you take care of a silver torch cactus?

This cactus needs full sun but in the hottest regions it prefers some shelter from midday heat. The soil should be freely draining but does not have to be particularly fertile. Water the plant spring through summer when the top of the soil is dry.
