Can I plant moss instead of grass?
For the rest of us, moss can be a great alternative to that high maintenance grass. Using moss as lawn provides wonderful springy groundcover which can be walked on moderately, a no mow alternative and rich, deep color and texture. It might be a good choice for your lawn needs.
How do you get moss to grow grass?
Drainage. Moss grows well in damp, shaded areas. If your lawn has low areas that collect standing water, top dress the area until it is level. To do this, allow the low areas in your lawn to dry; then spread a layer of topsoil over the low spots equal in depth to one-half the height of your grass.
How do I make my lawn moss free?
Aerate the lawn in autumn by spiking holes in the soil at regular intervals. For small gardens, you can do this using a garden fork, pushing it in as far as possible and then removing it. For large areas, it's easier to use a mechanical aerator. Re-seed sparse or bare patches of lawn.
Will grass grow back after Moss?
It's likely that your soil's pH is too low, it becomes acidic and moss will flourish. In this case, no matter how often you remove moss, it will keep coming back unless you can raise the pH. Johnsons Lawn Seed's After Moss is coated in calcium carbonate which raises the pH of the soil for you.
